And I&#039;m SUPER rusty on this, but your discussion of Dilger&#039;s programmers vs. non-programmer&#039;s split is reminiscent, in some ways, of Manovich&#039;s new book, I think (or at least what I understood of it from his talk at Louisville).  There, he argues that for &quot;software studies&quot; because software is the interface that determines our interaction with technology---ie, we NEVER see the thing as itself.  My sense is that he would say that there is very little difference between a course-in-a-box and the page numbering functions in Word: both work to construct and delimit the expectations of what we can do within a given framework.</description>
